Why obey God's Laws

  • We are called to be Holy People.
    • For thou art a holy people unto the Lord thy God: the Lord thy God hath chosen thee to be a special people unto himself, above all people that are upon the face of the earth. Deuteronomy 7:6
    • But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should show forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvelous light. 1 Peter 2:9
  • Long Life
    • Now these are the commandments, the statues, and the judgements, which the Lord your God commanded to teach you, that ye might do them in the land whither ye go to possess it. That thou mightiest fear the Lord thy God, to keep all his statutes and his commandments, which I command thee, thou, and thy son, and thy son’s son, all the days of thy life; and that thy days may be prolonged. Deuteronomy 6:1-2

  • He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him. John 14:21
  • If you keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father’s commandments, and abide in his love John 15:10

     Also consider 1 Corinthians 11:27-32

Wherefore whosoever shall eat this bread, and drink this cup of the Lord, unworthily, shall be guilty of the body and blood of the Lord. But let a man examine himself, and so let him eat of that bread, and drink of that cup. For he that eateth and drinketh unworthily, eateth and drinketh damnation to himself, not discerning the Lord's body. For this cause many are weak and sickly among you, and many sleep. For if we would judge ourselves, we should not be judged. But when we are judged, we are chastened of the Lord, that we should not be condemned with the world.

This doesn't mean we are under the law. It simply means that there are consequences to every action. In the past God allowed dieses and sickness to come upon people when they disobeyed. Also, remember that not every sickness is a punishment. However, many times in the Bible that was the case. Let's be proactive by trying to obey God in every area of our lives and being quick to repent when we fail.

  • 2 Corinthians 12:7

And lest I should be exalted above measure through the abundance of the revelations, there was given to me a thorn in the fleshthe messenger of Satan to buffet me, lest I should be exalted above measure.
Romans 8:28
And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.
Sometimes we go through things so we can be at the right place at the right time to help someone else.
