The Call to Prayer

The Call to Prayer

2 Chronicles 7:14

 If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.

1.     The Godly Shall Pray

a.     Psalm 32:6 For this shall every one that is godly pray unto thee in a time when thou mayest be found: surely in the floods of great waters they shall not come nigh unto him.

b.    Isaiah 55:6 Seek ye the Lord while he may be found, call ye upon him while he is near:

                                                             i.            There is a time when the Lord will not answer. The Godly are told to pray while he may be found.

2.     Pray without ceasing

a.     1 Thessalonians 5:17 Pray without ceasing.

                                                             i.            Uninterruptedly, without omission (something neglected or left undone), without ceasing

                                                           ii.            This means praying throughout the day every day.

b.    Luke 18:1-8 And he spake a parable unto them to this end, that men ought always to pray, and not to faint; Saying, There was in a city a judge, which feared not God, neither regarded man: And there was a widow in that city; and she came unto him, saying, Avenge me of mine adversary. And he would not for a while: but afterward he said within himself, Though I fear not God, nor regard man; Yet because this widow troubleth me, I will avenge her, lest by her continual coming she weary me.  And the Lord said, Hear what the unjust judge saith. And shall not God avenge his own elect, which cry day and night unto him, though he bear long with them? I tell you that he will avenge them speedily. Nevertheless when the Son of man cometh, shall he find faith on the earth?

                                                             i.            The Woman in the parable did not give up. She come every day.

                                                           ii.            Jesus is asking will he find such faith. Will the people still be coming to him every day throughout the day?

c.     Ephesians 6:18 Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;

                                                             i.            Again, we are commanded to always be in prayer.

3.     Prayer for all Things

a.     Philippians 4:6-7 Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

                                                             i.            We are told not to worry. Instead take our needs to God in Prayer.

                                                           ii.            Pray about everything. God is not too busy to hear about all our worries, concerns, and needs.

4.     Praying for Needs

a.     James 5:13-18 Is any among you afflicted? let him pray. Is any merry? let him sing psalms. Is any sick among you? let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord: And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him. Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much. Elias was a man subject to like passions as we are, and he prayed earnestly that it might not rain: and it rained not on the earth by the space of three years and six months.  And he prayed again, and the heaven gave rain, and the earth brought forth her fruit.

                                                             i.            Physicals needs are to be Prayed about.

5.     Continue in Prayer

a.     Colossians 4:2 Continue in prayer, and watch in the same with thanksgiving;
