Understanding the Resurrection of the Dead

How Are the Dead Raised Up? What body are they raised up with? The answers to these questions can be found in 1 Corinthians 15:35, 42-58.

Body is Sown:

  • in corruption
  • in dishonor
  • in weakness
  • a natural body
First Adam:
  • a living being
  • was of the earth
  • made of dust
  • we have borne the image of the man of dust
  • flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God
  • was of the earth
  • made of dust
  • we have borne the image of the man of dust
  • flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God
Body is Raised:
  • in incorruption
  • in glory
  • in power
  • a spiritual body
Last Adam (Christ)
  • life-giving spirit
  • the Lord from heaven
  • we shall bear the image of the heavenly man
  • incorruption will inherit the kingdom of God
We Shall all be changed:
  • in a moment
  • in a twinkling of an eye
  • at the last trumpet sound
  • the dead will be raised incorruptible
  • all in Christ will be changed
  • corruptible must put on incorruptible
  • mortal must put on immortality
  • death will have not sting!
  • Hades will have no victory!
What about Those Who have fallen Asleep? See 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18
But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope. For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him.

1 Thessalonians 4:16-18
For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord. Wherefore comfort one another with these words.

The Day of the Lord: (1 Thessalonians 5:1-11)
  • will come as a thief in the night
  • sudden destruction shall come upon those in darkness; they shall not escape
  • will not overtake the sons of light; the sons of the day
  • God did not appoint us to wrath
  • God appointed us to obtain salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ
  • whether we wake or sleep, we shall live together with Christ
Therefore:

  • 1 Peter 5:8 Be sober, be vigilantbecause your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:
  • 1 Thessalonians 5:8 But let us, who are of the day, be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love; and for an helmet, the hope of salvation.
The Judgement seat of Christ
  • 2 Corinthians 5:6-11 Therefore we are always confident, knowing that, whilst we are at home in the body, we are absent from the Lord: (For we walk by faith, not by sight:) We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord. Wherefore we labour, that, whether present or absent, we may be accepted of him. For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad. Knowing therefore the terror of the Lord, we persuade men; but we are made manifest unto God; and I trust also are made manifest in your consciences.
  • Romans 14:7-13 For none of us liveth to himself, and no man dieth to himself. For whether we live, we live unto the Lord; and whether we die, we die unto the Lord: whether we live therefore, or die, we are the Lord's. For to this end Christ both died, and rose, and revived, that he might be Lord both of the dead and living. But why dost thou judge thy brother? or why dost thou set at nought thy brother? for we shall all stand before the judgment seat of Christ. For it is written, As I live, saith the Lord, every knee shall bow to me, and every tongue shall confess to God. So then every one of us shall give account of himself to God. Let us not therefore judge one another any more: but judge this rather, that no man put a stumblingblock or an occasion to fall in his brother's way.
  • Hebrews 4:12-13 For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. Neither is there any creature that is not manifest in his sight: but all things are naked and opened unto the eyes of him with whom we have to do.
The Marriage of the Lamb
  • John 3:29 He that hath the bride is the bridegroom: but the friend of the bridegroom, which standeth and heareth him, rejoiceth greatly because of the bridegroom's voice: this my joy therefore is fulfilled.
  • Revelation 19:6-8 And I heard as it were the voice of a great multitude, and as the voice of many waters, and as the voice of mighty thunderings, saying, Alleluia: for the Lord God omnipotent reigneth. Let us be glad and rejoice, and give honour to him: for the marriage of the Lamb is come, and his wife hath made herself ready. And to her was granted that she should be arrayed in fine linen, clean and white: for the fine linen is the righteousness of saints.
The Marriage Supper of the Lamb
Revelation 19:9 And he saith unto me, Write, Blessed are they which are called unto the marriage supper of the Lamb. And he saith unto me, These are the true sayings of God.

The Praise of Heaven
  • Revelation 11:17 Saying, We give thee thanks, O Lord God Almighty, which art, and wast, and art to come; because thou hast taken to thee thy great power, and hast reigned.
  • Revelation 19:5 And a voice came out of the throne, saying, Praise our God, all ye his servants, and ye that fear him, both small and great.
